All of us at Chromosphere believe that Black Lives Matter.
I’ve always believed that art is a way to share unique perspectives of the world and create connections to other people from backgrounds different from our own. We learn by sharing experiences with each other. The more I’ve listened to and worked with other people who have different ideas, different thoughts, and different experiences from mine, the more I’ve grown as an artist and as a person. The animation community is home to many supremely talented Black artists, but there are so many more Black voices who are not being heard and not getting the chance to share their artistic perspectives with us because of so many fundamental issues rooted in racism which exist in our society, in the animation industry, and within ourselves.
We recognize how far we have to grow and learn as individuals and as a studio to help build the kind of diverse artistic community we want to see and be a part of. We’re living in an incomplete community and want to do our part to support, uplift, and cultivate the voices who will propel art and animation to a better and more creatively awesome place. In addition to developing in-house initiatives with focuses on diversity in the workplace as well as community outreach, we wanted to highlight 3 organizations we have donated to as a studio and believe are playing a part in shaping our world into a better place. We recognize that these actions are just the beginning, but we are committing ourselves to the ongoing effort of doing our part to encourage change.
We can do better.
Love,
Kevin & the Chromo-Team
